A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 6:41-51
The Jews murmured about Jesus because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,” and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph?

Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.
At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself.
When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.
Herod the tetrarch heard of the reputation of Jesus and said to his servants, “This man is John the Baptist.
Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue.
