Saint Who?
Saints Who Performed Great Miracles
Saint Maturinus
Priest († 4th c.)Feast: November 1
Maturinus (or Mathurin) lived in the 4th century in what is now France. His father, a zealous pagan, was in charge of killing the Christians in the area. But it is said that Saint Polycarp himself recognized the boy’s goodness and instructed him in the faith. Maturinus was baptized at age twelve.
He lived his new life with such zeal that his parents were amazed. Prayer, fasts, and vigils for their conversion soon bore fruit. Both mother and father were baptized, and became protectors of the faithful. When Maturinus was twenty, he was ordained a priest. His preaching won souls and was accompanied by miracles.
In particular, he had tremendous power over demons. It is said he easily delivered all possessed persons. Because of this power, he was called to Rome to help deliver the daughter of a ruler. He died there in 388, but had asked that his body be returned to his home (in present-day Larchant, France). For many years, his burial place was a stop along the Camino de Santiago. He is patron of possessed persons, the mentally ill, and those afflicted by fear.
Heavenly Father, through the prayers of
Saint Maturinus, grant deliverance to all
who suffer mental illness or possession.
